Route

Day tour:

9:30 am: Pickup in front of Hotel Le Bristol (address: 44 cours Jean Jaurès 84000 Avignon).

10:45 am: Stop at Senanque Cistercian Abbey (1h15 drive), built in 1148 and located in the middle of very colorful lavender fields managed by the local monks themselves. A little part of the fields is open to take pictures in it. One can also enjoy the abbey’s shop and library. Duration: about 45 minutes.

11:45 am: Free time in the village of Gordes (15 minutes drive), listed in France’s most beautiful villages. You will be able to stroll into the paved narrow streets to see the dry stone-made houses, the church (whose a part of the inside was damaged during an earthquake in 1909) and a beautiful viewpoint over the valley. Duration: 1 hour.

12:50 pm: Quick stop at a stunning viewpoint over the village of Gordes and the valley (5 minutes drive). One of the region’s most beautiful scenic views. Duration: 10 minutes.

1:00 pm: Provençal picnic in Gordes area (10 minutes drive) with a nice view over the valley. This picnic will be made up of local goods only (instance: hard-boiled eggs from the farm, black olives tapenade, sweet pepper tapenade, fresh goat cheese, seasonal fruits, grape juice). Duration: about 1 hour.

2:45 pm: Stop in the wonderful lavender fields at the Claparèdes Plateau (45 minutes drive). In one of the largest lavender fields in the Luberon area, you will be able to take beautiful pictures with the Mont Ventoux in the background. Duration: about 30 minutes.

3:45 pm: Visit of the other most famous village of the area, Roussillon (30 minutes drive). Roussillon is very unique thanks to its ochre colour. Ochre was extracted in the area during more than 150 years, especially for colouring and painting, and the village was built on an ochred upland’s top. Duration: about 45 minutes.

4:45 pm: Last stop in a stunning lavender field with a nice view over the mountains around (15 minutes drive). According to blooming, this stop can be with the Luberon uplands or the Mont Ventoux in the background. Duration: 30 minutes.
